Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Develops, organizes, and implements high-quality YMCA aquatics and sports programming.

Qualifications

1.

Minimum age of 21

2.

Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

3.

Preferred candidates will have a minimum of 2 years in aquatics field.

4.

Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification

6.

Current Swim Instructor Certification preferred or achieved within 60 days of hire

7.

Certified Pool Operator Certification preferred

8.

Will be required to have trainer certifications in ASHI CPR, AED, and O2 within 6 months, YMCA Swim Instructor Trainer in 1 year, AFO in 6 months, and YMCA Lifeguard Instructor within in 6 months of employment

9.

Ability to maintain all required certifications and the necessary level of physical and mental readiness

10.

Superior oral and written communication skills

11.

Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards

12.

Supervisory experience required, 2 years preferred

Essential Functions

Division of Duties:
60% supervision and management of Aquatic Department 40% supervision and management of Sports Department
Priorities
Supervision of all aspects of aquatics safety and sports programming Accountable for total budget expectations and outcomes of aquatics and sports departments Responsible to provide leadership in aquatics maintenance and pool care Organizes and implements all aquatics and sports programs
The Senior Program Director of Aquatics and Sports must understand and be willing to learn the necessary skills required for the successful completion of duties including:

1.

Budget and Financial Performance
Responsible for developing and managing aquatics and sports budget to meet fiscal objectives Creates and schedules swim classes, water aerobics, rentals, sports seasons
2.

Program Development and Membership Engagement
Directs and supervises all aquatic program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.

Establishes new program activities and expands aquatic and sports programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of outdoor pool, indoor pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna.

Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance in adherence with state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations Organizes and implements sports programs Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs

Team Performance Towards Organizational Goals
Recruits, hires, trains, schedules and supervises all aquatic personnel, sports staff and volunteers Hires and train’s part time Aquatic Coordinator and part time Sports Coordinator to assist with duties Reviews and evaluates staff performance.

Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals Ensures all aquatics staff is trained in emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures Performs and adheres to safety, cleanliness Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete Provides strong leadership while expanding current aquatic and sport program offerings with high quality attaining goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan

· Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

Actively participates in YMCA fundraising activities and special events Actively maintain and seek new community sponsors for aquatic and sports programs Participates in a successful annual support campaign showing leadership in staff giving and membership involvement
5.

Professional Development
Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, oxygen administration, swim instructor, First Aid and CPR trainings Perform all functions as those they supervise and meets qualifications and certifications of YMCA Lifeguard Instructor and YMCA Swim Instructor
6.

Abuse Prevention
Follows staff screening requirements for abuse risk.

Provides staff with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.

Provides staff with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.

Requires staff to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.

Responds quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.

Responds seriously and confidently to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.

Follows mandated reporting requirements.

Communicates to all staff the organization’s commitment to protect their youth from abuse.

Reports essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.
