SAP Business Process Lead

Our client, a global environmental science and technology organization, is seeking several SAP Business Process Leads to implement business processes within several workstreams to drive upskilling. These roles are long term contract opportunities extending into 2023. These are primarily remote roles with the possibility to work in office in the King of Prussia, PA area.


Job purpose

This groups mission is to further business transformation by implementing standard business processes and enablers within the environmental science and technology division. The implementation of consistent SAP templates is planned over a 2-year period.


The Business Process Lead joins a team consisting of BPOs, BPAs, functional experts, SMEs, and delivery managers. The business process leads will provide expertise based on experience in delivery of SAP capabilities to the team. They will lead requirements gathering / validation, and work with  internal IT solution delivery team to ensure that solutions are optimal for the business, and incorporate best practice use of SAP and agreed KPIs. Successful execution of this assignment will result in performance improvements to the organization’s SAP template, and preparation for a successful SAP deploy in US operations.


Principal accountabilities

Business Process Transformation

Sufficient fluency/expertise in SAP applications, data, analytics to enable proper engagement and dialog with IT SAP Architects and Functional Experts including the following:

  • Attend Governance Forums to provide ERP leadership and appropriate Sector process knowledge / representation to ensure integrity of process
  • Leading the design of optimal SAP-enabled business processes for the Business in their function.
  • Understand core global ERP template and ensure solution is “fit for purpose” for the organization
  • Experience with SAP testing sufficient to support confirming and managing UAT approach for Sector relating to changes to the template or process.
  • Work closely with the Implementation and Deployment teams to direct deployment decisions, liaising with deployment sites to ensure template and solution gaps are identified, Sector change impacts are effectively captured, and business readiness activities are identified and completed.
  • Engage with the Sector organization and Super User Network (SUN), to drive adoption and compliance with standard operating procedures, and support SUN upskilling
  • Teaching the BPOs and BPAs SAP imperatives and providing upskilling in areas where current levels of SAP expertise are suboptimal.
  • Work with key stakeholders across the business to encourage engagement, understanding and readiness of SAP platform awareness and upskilling. (Plug the gaps in existing template performance and US scope / go-live preparation)
  • Support the BPOs to drive process standardization, simplification and adoption of the standard solution during deployment waves and for all parts of the business that are already using the solution.
  • Lead escalation in the work stream for all process activities and drive the knowledge transfer to team members and end users as required 
  • Recognize and mitigate wider integration impacts of process solutions in other workstreams and functional areas, collaborate with other workstreams to manage effectively
  • Lead the development of benefit and value realization and process improvement cases within the program
  • Support documentation and ongoing maintenance and management of local process – including both on and off system steps and processes not within global scope and control.


Business Change Management

  • Lead process walkthroughs for the appropriate functional area to ensure business understanding and drive adoption of the solution
  • Champion and advocate the solution for the relevant functional area across global workstreams
  • Provide specific input to the development and review of training curriculum, training needs analysis and education and training materials for the relevant functional area
  • Deliver education and training sessions, including process education/focus sessions, knowledge transfer and go-live training for Super Users, End Users & Training Developers/Deliverers
  • Provide business process leadership to live users of the SAP systems, especially during hyper care.


Data and Information Management

  • Work with the Master Data Team to agree data model design, cleansing rules, load validation and defect management



  • Drive the establishment and management of processes to maintain the integrity of the template solution, specifically understanding and adhering to program governance processes.
  • Identify and escalate risks and issues within area of responsibility and take ownership
  • To take on any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.



  • Significant, complex role required to influence across global teams
  • Responsibility for the related end to end business process transformation within the Sector
  • Work closely with members of the SAP team, third parties, system integrator partners and the SAP Center of Excellence support organization
  • Work closely with business owners and key stakeholders to build engagement, ensure understanding and drive the implementation of the SAP solution and other related programs
  • Provide support and coach peers and junior members of the team



  • 5+ years experience in or working with SAP-enabled businesses, including participation in go-live, delivery, or improvement projects.                                                                                                                              
  • Experience working in a similar lead role (BPO/GPO/senior BPA) supporting technical ERP systems and implementations or in a business process owner role                                                                                                                              
  • Ability to convey complex technical terms to non-technical users and vice versa
  • Experience in formal business process design, mapping, and optimization                                                                                                                              
  • Previous experience working in a technical role within a similar industry (manufacturing/chemicals)
  • Strong understanding of technology trends                                                                                                                              


Job Requirements:

  • Supporting the SAP EDI/PI/PO system functionality, assuring key business processes function within defined SLAs
  • Involve managing all accepts of the project implementation working with Ciber resources and customer resources in global implementation
  • S a subject matter expert and support train-the-trainer and other learning activities
  • Implemented include\: ECC, Suite on HANA Fiori, APO/SNC, BI, Ariba, and PI
  • Support the Identification of opportunities for process improvement, management control of work, or automation
  • Analyze business operations and processes to understand strengths and weaknesses
  • Receive feedback/coaching on performance from other members of the team or leadership
  • Leading Whirlpool’s Integrated Supply Chain Organization in the development and deployment of solutions in support of Whirlpool’s Order to Cash
  • Solving of solution gaps and implementation issues of increasing complexity and ambiguity
  • Lead individual projects within work streams
  • Execute best practices, business processes or projects in support of cross functional objectives
  • Demonstrate the following competencies: Change Management, ability to navigate through ambiguity
  • Provide recommendations on progress toward project management deliverables
  • Make recommendations based on technical capabilities
  • Identify and escalate issues and risks within project structure
  • Use general to deep knowledge to translate business requirements for design specifications Relationship Management
