Overview:
Gemma Services is seeking a contracted 15 hours per week, Child Psychiatrist to join our Residential Treatment Facility located at Plymouth Meeting, PA

Our nonprofit agency provides education, nurturing, and healing for children, teens, and families through evidence-based and individualized services. We offer education programs, mental health services in residential and community settings, foster care and adoption services, and prevention programs.

Residential Treatment provides 24/7 clinical treatment and trauma-focused care for children and youth who have experienced traumas and/or significant mental health concerns. Our goal is to help them heal and learn new skills so they can live successfully in a home and community setting.

Responsibilities include:

  • Obtains complete psychiatric and medical history; completes admission psychiatric evaluations, re-evaluations, and psychiatric recommendations, as required.
  • Performs medication reviews and prescribes medications when indicated; obtains prior consent from families/legal guardians for prescribed medications.
  • Prescribes necessary laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and specialist consultations.
  • Provides clinical consultation to the Residential Treatment team by observation on the living units, face-to-face sessions with children, and review of the case material.
  • Provides the treatment team staff with the options available for treatment and interprets the potential impact of the various treatment modalities on the child and family utilizing the Gemma Services Trauma Recovery document.
  • Attends Clinical Reviews and participates with staff in the development of treatment plan goals and interventions focused on each individual child’s issues as identified in the Bio-Psychosocial evaluations and subsequent evaluations through analyzing behavior within the context of the Gemma Services Trauma Recovery Model.
  • Observes, monitors, and interacts with the Residential Program children for whom he/she is clinically responsible within the context of the child’s living environment, including the child’s residential unit and therapeutic and other activities, for the purpose of determining the child’s progress on their individual treatment plan goals, the nature of the child’s interaction with peers and staff, and observing the appropriateness of the staff’s therapeutic interventions.
  • Completes required Medical Assistance documentation for each child’s continued stay in Residential Treatment, as recommended by the Residential Treatment team.
  • Confirms appropriateness of continued treatment/medical necessity by reviewing, updating, and signing treatment plans.

Job Requirements:

Education/Training: 

  • Valid PA MD
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Adult/Child Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • Valid DEA
  • Current Individual Professional Liability (Malpractice) Insurance.

Experience: 

  • Two (2) years of related experience preferred.
