Careers at the Applied Research Laboratory at the Pennsylvania State University Experimental Machinist Fabricator The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas. We are looking for an experienced machinist to join us at our State College, PA location. The working environment for this role is fully on-site, and the schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00AM – 3:30PM. You will be responsible for: Performing a variety of machining operations to extremely close tolerances using lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, highly specialized tools, and other shop equipment Fabricate and construct a variety of shapes composed of steel, brass, aluminum, stainless steel, and other exotic materials Operate computerized numerically controlled equipment (CNC) and use software to generate tool paths for parts fabrication in multiple axes Design, develop, and construct intricate tools, jigs, fixtures, and special gauges for the fabrication of standard and experimental parts Perform and execute welding using oxygen, acetylene, electric, TIG, MIG, etc. Work closely with engineers in developing new, unusual or untried designs and methods Requirements include: Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship, or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education Over 5 years of effective experience Use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft To view the full job description, and to apply online, visit https://psu.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/PSU_Staff/job/Penn-State-University-Park/Experimental-Machinist-Fabricator_REQ_0000030425-1 You will be subject to a government security investigation, and you must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
