Hickory Veterinary and Specialty Hospital is a privately owned third generation family practice. We are currently open 7a-9pm daily, 365 days/year. We are looking to expand our surgical services and to provide 24-hour service to clients in the future.

Currently Hickory Veterinary and Specialty Hospital is a busy hybrid practice, seeing general medicine cases, emergencies, surgeries as well as specialty appointments daily including cardiology, neurology, behavior, ophthalmology and radiology! We are a fun, family oriented facility where growth and professional development are fostered and promoted!

Hickory is looking for an Experienced Surgical Veterinary Technician to add to our growing family. This position is full time, but part time will be considered as well. This position also holds the opportunity for a leadership position in the hospital. Surgical and anesthesia experience required, including but not limited to orthopedic surgeries, extensive soft tissue surgery, dental and neurology surgery experience. Any leadership experience will also be strongly considered.

Duties would include:

  • Working closely with the surgeons at Hickory to facilitate surgical workflow, maintain facilities and surgical equipment, provide exception patient care to surgical patients including general anesthesia and aftercare.
  • Ensuring surgical patients have treatment plans and communicating these with inpatient to provide exceptional patient care.
  • Assist in outpatient surgical appointments, taking a medical history, creating a medical record, and facilitating the appointments.
  • Technical skills such as blood draws, intravenous catheter placement, intubation, and surgical assistance as needed.
  • Monitor animals’ conditions, rapidly identify, and address anything (medical or behavioral) which might warrant veterinary attention, and work in cooperation with staff to attend to any immediate needs.
  • Assist in maintaining healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant, and clean facilities for the patients.
  • Performing client call backs and client communication as needed for surgical patients.
  • Working well in a team motivated environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and stimulate professional growth!
