Position Description

At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer II to join the Data, Power, and Control Division in Canonsburg, PA. The Mechanical Engineer II provides support for the design, development, and validation of new products. Works under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.

Essential Functions

  • Create innovative, customizable power distribution and monitoring solutions to provide value to our partners in all the markets we serve.
  • Use a systematic, analytically-based approach to conception, designing, and testing.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team tasked with the commercialization and launch of Starline-designed products.
  • Perform complex mechanical engineering design tasks in support of new product development.
  • Assist in defining and conducting the testing required, verifying product performance, system integration, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing to assure product manufacturability.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with other designers.
  • Review the work of others including Drafters and Engineers.

Additional Duties

  • Collaboration with certification laboratories such as UL, CSA, and Intertek (ETL) as well as various international agencies.
  • Participate in Team-based initiatives within Starline.
  • Jobsite support.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer (5 years preferred.)
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10%

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with integrated system design including 3D modeling, GD&T, DFM, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of applicable agency standards.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office tools.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and principles.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where, under certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection are required.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25lbs
